7. 결론

본 연구에서는 최면전생퇴행시에 생성되는 전생기억의 정체에 관하여 현재까지의 과학적 실험결과들 및 최면의학계의 견해와 종교적 논란을 고찰하였으며 연구자가 직접 최면전생퇴행실험을 시행하여 전생이 존재한다는 증거로 인용되는 최면에서의 전생기억의 정체에 대한 연구를 시행하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다.

1) 최면전생퇴행시에 생성되는 전생기억생성율은 '한글판 하버드 최면감수성 집단척도(Korean Version of Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility; HGSHS:K)'의 점수와 유의한 상관관계를 보였다.

2) 한글판 하버드 최면감수성 집단척도는 12가지의 암시에 반응하는 정도를 0에서 12까지의 점수로 나타낸 것이며 따라서 그 점수의 높고 낮음은 암시에 대한 개인의 반응성의 높고 낮음을 의미한다. 최면전생퇴행시에 생성되는 전생기억생성율이 한글판 하버드 최면감수성 집단척도 점수와 유의한 상관관계를 보였다는 것은 전생기억생성이 암시와 유의한 상관관계가 있음을 의미한다. 암시에 잘 반응하는 사람들에서 전생기억이 잘생기며, 암시에 잘 반응하지 않는 사람들에서는 전생기억이 잘 생기지 않는다는 것은 전생기억이 암시에 의한 반응이라는 것을 의미한다.

3) HGSHS:A점수는 상상몰두(imaginative involvement)및 환상빈발경향(fantasy proneness)과 유의한 상관관계가 있음이 연구되어있다. HGSHS:K는 HGSHS:A를 번역한 것으로 그 내용이 같은 것이다. 즉 HGSHS:K는 HGSHS:A와 같은 정도의 신뢰도 및 타당도를 가진다고 할 수 있겠다. 따라서 최면전생퇴행시에 생성되는 전생기억생성율이 한글판 하버드 최면감수성 집단척도의 점수와 유의한 상관관계를 보였다는 것은 전생기억은 상상몰두 및 환상빈발경향과 유의한 상관이 있음을 의미한다.

4) 최면전생퇴행시에 생성되는 전생기억생성율은 개인이 평소에 전생이 존재 한다고 믿는지 혹은 믿지않는지의 여부, 즉 전생존재유무에 대한 믿음과는 상관이 없었다. 이는 전생기억생성에 있어서 평소의 믿음과는 상관없이 암시의 역할이 보다 더 중요함을 의미한다.

5) 본 실험은 전생기억생성이 암시성의 정도에 따른다는 것을 분명하게 보여줌으로서, 기억이라면 암시와 상관없이 생성되어야하기 때문에, 또한 암시성의 척도인 최면감수성척도는 상상몰두및 환상빈발경향과 연관이 있는 척도이기 때문에 최면의학계의 견해인 전생의 기억이라고 주장되어지는 것들은 기억이 아니며 환상이라는 판정을 지지하고 있다.

6) 전생생성의 내용에 있어서는 대상인에게 비교적 친숙한 내용들이 생성되는 경향이 있었으며 본 실험에서는 캐나다의 실험에서는 나타나지 않은 전생에 동물이었다는 내용이 포함되어있어 전생의 내용이 전생에 대한 사회적 인식 및 일반적 믿음과 연관이 있음을 보여주었다.

결론적으로 전생이 존재한다는 증거로 인용되는 최면에서의 전생기억은 암시에 의한 것으로서 전생이 존재한다는 증거가 될 수 없다.
